*sold out* Greco-Roman Medicine Day School at The Roman Baths

27 January @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Location: The Roman Baths – Clore Learning Centre, Swallow Street, Bath, BA1 1RB

Price: £45 or £35 for Discovery Card holders, seniors and students

Learn about medicine and healthcare in Roman Britain with interactive discussions, practical sessions and a tour around the Roman bathing and temple site.

Finding ways to cope with illnesses and injuries have been constant concerns throughout all human history. Written records together with archaeological finds from sites such as Bath have painted a vivid picture of the medical care provided to both the military and the civilian inhabitants of Roman Britain.

Facilitated by a doctor-historian, this adult day school will also present a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between ancient and modern medicine covering questions such as:

Dealing with stress, depression and anxiety. Does Roman Stoicism offer us a philosophy of life that can help with mental wellbeing today?

Next Emperor, please! Can modern doctors diagnose past illnesses?

Can today’s healers learn anything from their Roman forbears about ‘how to look; how to listen; how to speak; and how to care’?
