Lunchtime Talk: Eggs, Evolution and Life on Earth with Jules Howard

20 May @ 1:30 pm 2:30 pm

Jules-Howard-Infinite-Life

Zoologist Jules Howard takes us on a mind-bending journey into the revolutionary story of eggs, evolution and life on earth, inviting us to take a fresh look at the fascinating evolution of the animal egg. A simple shape which has played a dramatic role in how life on earth has come to be.

Every egg there has ever been is an emblem of survival. The evolution of the animal egg is the dramatic subplot missing in many accounts of how life on Earth came to be. Yet, quite simply, without this universal biological phenomenon, animals as we know them, including us, could not have evolved and flourished.

Jules Howard is a zoology correspondent, author, science-writer and broadcaster. He is a regular writer for The Guardian and Science Focus magazine, and hosts and performs at festivals including Wilderness Festival, Green Man Festival, Blue Dot Festival, Edinburgh International Science Festival and Cheltenham Science Festival. Howard holds a Zoology Hons and Masters in Evolution from the University of Liverpool. His popular non-fiction books include award-winning Wonderdog (2022), and Death on Earth (2016), which was shortlisted for the Royal Society of Biology book award.
