NATO at 75: Past, Present and Future with Peter Apps, a Bath Arts Collective event

26 March @ 5:30 pm 6:30 pm

NATO at 75

2024 marks the 75th Anniversary of NATO – the transatlantic alliance as prominent in the Cold War as in the Ukraine conflict today.

Its changing political initiatives, military operations, and burgeoning membership from 12 to 31 countries (and counting!) reflect its enduring significance.

Reuters journalist Peter Apps (Deterring Armageddon)  talks to Caroline Sanderson about how the NATO alliance survived disagreement between leaders from Eisenhower and Churchill to Trump and Merkel, navigated a path through events including the Korean War, the pandemic and a chaotic evacuation from Kabul and looks ahead to what might be the most dangerous era it has ever faced.

‘In order to fathom today’s dark world, Apps has explored a labyrinth of once-classified history, and he brings dazzling clarity.’Sinclair McKay

Peter Apps is global affairs commentator at Reuters and a British Army reservist. He has reported from across the world as Reuters political risk and global defence correspondent.
