Satire, Scandal & Printmakers in Georgian London with Alice Loxton

20 March @ 3:30 pm 4:30 pm

Satire & Scandal in Georgian London

Join historian Alice Loxton on a scathingly witty romp through a Georgian London at the height of a golden age of scandal as viewed through the acid pens of its leading caricaturists – Thomas Rowlandson, James Gillray and Isaac Cruikshank. Set against a backdrop of royal madness, political intrigue, the birth of modern celebrity, French revolution, American independence and the Napoleonic Wars, the trio turned to bawdy satire with their lampooning of those in power profoundly altering British humour, setting the stage for everything from Gilbert and Sullivan to Private Eye.
