The Botanical Art of Mrs Delany: Talk, Tea, and Cake
3 May @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Join renowned botanical artist Deborah Lambkin as she delves into the extraordinary world of Mary Delany (1700–1788) and her iconic botanical collages.
In the last two decades of her life, Mrs. Delany created nearly 1,000 intricate floral compositions, meticulously cutting and layering coloured paper to capture the beauty and precision of live plants. Her remarkable “mosaiks” continue to inspire artists, botanists, and historians alike.
From a botanical illustrator’s perspective, Deborah will explore the techniques, materials, and methods believed to have been used by Mrs. Delany. She will also take a closer look at some of these exquisite collages, revealing their astonishing accuracy, delicate craftsmanship, and enduring aesthetic appeal.
The talk will last approximately an hour, with time for a Q&A session.
Tea and cakes will be served, including vegan and gluten free options.
This talk is in association with the exhibition hosted at No.1 Royal Crescent featuring Mary Delaney’s work which runs from 15th March to 15th June 2025.
