A Folk Music Special for European Folk Day
Across the continent of Europe musicians, audiences and promoters will celebrate the first ever pan-European Folk Day on 23 September 2023.
Multi award winning singer-songwriter and musician, proud Devonian Jim Causley is an all-rounder, nominated no less than six times for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Musician and Singer of the Year and Spiral Earth Singer of the Year. He worked with BBC TV historian Dr Sam Willis to create the music for ‘Highwaymen, Outlaws and Villains’ and performed his song about Dartmoor tin mining ‘Pride of the Moor’ on BBC TV’s Countryfile. One of the most well-loved and respected figures of today’s contemporary folk scene and a prolific collaborator, Causley is hugely admired for his work with iconic groups The Devil’s Interval and Mawkin:Causley as well as playing, touring and recording alongside Waterson:Carthy, John McCusker, Eddie Reader, Graham Coxson, Shirley Collins, Michael Morpurgo, Show of Hands, Kate Rusby and many more.
Shropshire Lad John Kirkpatrick is one of the most prolific figures on the English folk scene, as performer, songwriter, composer, choreographer and musical director. Performing solo, in duos, acoustic groups and electric bands John has established an enviable reputation as an instrumental virtuoso (melodeon, Anglo concertina and button accordion), as well as a leading interpreter of English folk music. He has been a member of the Albion Country Band, Magic Lantern, The Richard Thompson Band, Umps and Dumps, Steeleye Span, Brass Monkey, Trans-Europe Diatonique, and Band of Hope, as well as numerous ceilidh bands and was awarded the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Gold Badge for his outstanding contribution to English Folk Music.
