We’re thrilled to be able to show a preview of this sensitive, and heartfelt film which was received with unbridled enthusiasm at Berlin this year. It is told from the point of view of an 8 year old Aitor (Sophia Otero) who was born as a boy but is convinced that a mistake has been made and that she is really a girl.
She, along with her siblings and her mother, have travelled from their home to a small Basque village where her grandmother and great aunt live – it is the great-aunt, the kindest and most patient member of her family, who is the beekeeper. As we witness life from her perspective, we see adults rushing around with an (apparent) sense of purpose while the child struggles to make sense of her confusion, despite the efforts of others to help resolve the difficulties.
