In the beautiful setting of Prior Park College Chapel, The Handful performs The Deer’s Cry – a concert of modern and Romantic choral music from Central and Eastern Europe, spotlighting Rheinberger’s sublime Mass in E flat for double choir.

The evening will take us from dawn to dusk, opening with Rheinberger’s Morgenleid (Morning Song) and closing with his famous Abendlied (Evening Song). Along the way, we’ll encounter a host of choral favourites, including Pärt and Bruckner, as well as some hidden gems from contemporary composers Wolfram Buchenberg and Ēriks Ešenvalds.

“The Handful has a beautiful clarity of sound… a whole choir sounding as one.” – Audience feedback from ‘Beautiful Star’, December 2022

The programme includes:
Rheinberger | Mass in E♭ for double choir | Morgenlied | Abendlied
Bruckner | Os justi
Pärt | The Deer’s Cry
Ēriks Ešenvalds | Only in Sleep
Buchenberg | Kein schöner Land | Klangfelder Raumschwingungen Oszillationen | Von 55 Engeln behütet | Vier geistliche Gesänge (Erbarme dich unser & Ich bin das Brot des Lebens)

The Handful is one of the most exciting and vibrant chamber choirs in and around Bath. Since Vicente Chavarría became Musical Director in 2021, the choir and their audience have enjoyed his exploration of a diverse repertoire and commitment to adventurous music-making.
