A 70th Birthday Concert for Richard Blackford

Celebrating Seventy in Style

On 13th January 2024 Richard Blackford reaches the august age of 70 and in recognition of this event Bournemouth Symphony Chorus are presenting an evening concert at the atmospheric St Swithin’s Church, Bath in celebration of Richard’s work and achievements.

Richard is President of Bournemouth Symphony Chorus with a relationship that extends back almost thirty years and includes three major choral compositions; Voices of Exile (2001), Not in Our Time (2011) and Pietà (2018) which won the prestigious Ivor Novello Composer Award for the Choral Category in 2020.
The concert programme features Richard’s most recent award-winning composition, Babel, a cantata commissioned and first performed by The Camden Choir in 2022 which won Best Creator Award 2023, National Federation of Music Societies.

The Chorus are conducted by their Director, Gavin Carr and joined by soloists Rebecca Bottone, soprano, Mark Le Brocq, tenor and baritone, Stephen Gadd together with world-class instrumentalists; Irena Jakubcová – violin, David Mareček – piano, Jesper Svedberg – cello, Jeremy Little & Catherine Ring – percussion, Christopher Dowie & Sam Hanson – piano, David Bednall – organ.
