Bath is a pooch-friendly city, so feel free to bring your pup along for a visit! Here one of our Welcome Ambassadors, Sue, gives us the lowdown on a recommended dog walk in central Bath – including some great watering holes along the way. Here is one of Bryn’s favourite walks…

Start at the station
“Starting from Brunel Square (outside the railway station and near the bus station), there are plenty of dog-friendly coffee shops including Cafe au Lait and Chandos Deli. Head under the railway arches to cross over Halfpenny Bridge and then turn left briefly along Rossiter Road until the river joins the canal.
Enjoy the canal
“Then simply follow the canal. Keep an eye out for herons and the occasional kingfisher!
For the more adventurous, turn right over a pretty white iron footbridge over the canal at the top lock, where a steep flight of steps will lead to Bathwick Meadows and the Bath Skyline Walk – a 6 mile circular walk with stunning views.
Otherwise carry on along the canal path, crossing over Bathwick Hill and under Sydney Road, until a white iron gate on the left leads into Sydney Gardens.
Sydney Gardens
“Once in Sydney Gardens head towards the Holburne Museum. Its cafe is dog friendly, inside and out.
Emerging on the other side of the museum, you’ll find an impressive view down Great Pulteney Street.
Towards iconic sights
“Walk down Great Pulteney Street to the fountain at Laura Place. Steps on the left just before Pulteney Bridge will lead you down to the river and a water-level view of the iconic bridge.
You can continue along this riverside path past the rugby ground to arrive at the junction of the river and canal again, near where you started.
Alternatively, head back up the steps and cross over Pulteney Bridge to turn left for a higher view of the bridge from Grand Parade.
Straight on from Pulteney Bridge along Bridge Street you have a choice of several dog-friendly cafes including Cortado on Bridge Street or Rosarios in Northumberland Place.”
Thank you, Sue and Bryn!
