One of the best things about living in Bath is how much you can fit into a single day – from scenic walks and great food, to fun events and nights out. No two days ever feel the same, and that variety is what makes Bath such a special place to call home during your time at university. To help you settle in, here are some tried-and-tested tips and recommendations.
Tourist Bucket-List
Bath is full of history. Before discovering the local favourites, make sure you’ve ticked off the tourist ‘bucket-list’ spots. Take a picnic up to the Royal Crescent, stroll along the iconic Pulteney Bridge, step into the beautiful Bath Abbey and explore 2,000 years of history at the Roman Baths.
Top Tip: Full-time students at Bath University and Bath Spa University receive free entry to the Roman Baths with a valid student I.D.

City meets Country
Bath is unique in the way it blends the buzz of city life with the calm of the countryside, and is host to many scenic walks. A personal favourite of mine is the Avon & Kennet Canal route which joins onto the more challenging Bath Skyline walk – great to do with friends.
There are also plenty of green spaces and parks in the heart of Bath, such as Parade Gardens which overlooks the weir, and is my go-to spot for a coffee in the sunshine.
Top Tip: Head up to Alexandra Park at sunset for the best views of the city.

Dining
If there is one thing that Bath is not short of, it is dining options. From cosy independent cafes and riverside pubs to bustling restaurants, there’s always somewhere new to try and you won’t struggle to find your go-to places.
It is hard to narrow it down, but when it comes to a light bite, I head straight for the Abbey Churchyard. Here you will find a hub of independent cafes, such as Mokoko and Mjolk, offering fresh sandwiches, great coffee and sweet treats all within the perfect setting of Bath Abbey.
Bath’s dinner options are endless and can cater for any occasion and budget, however my current favourites are Solina Pasta on Grand Parade for their small plates or Bosco Pizzeria in Milsom Place for a pizza fix.
Top Tip: View our Offers page to see what dining discounts you can make use of around Bath. And try the Mjolk cinnamon buns!

Nights Out
Bath might be famous for its history and architecture, but as a student you’ll quickly discover it’s also a fantastic city for a night out. From cosy pubs tucked away on side streets to lively clubs, there’s something to suit every mood.
If you’re after a laid-back evening, Bath has plenty of pubs to choose from — try Crystal Palace in the city centre for a relaxed atmosphere, or head to The Boater, complete with an outdoor bar and heated terrace.
For something a little more lively, you can catch the game at Ludo or head to Boom Battle Bar, where you’ll find everything from axe throwing and crazy golf to karaoke.
When it’s time to carry on into the night, make your way to Sub 13 to enjoy a DJ set on the terrace, or dance until late at Labyrinth Nightclub. Whatever your vibe, Bath’s nightlife makes it easy to shape the perfect evening out.
Top Tip: Sub13 offer 20% student discount Sunday-Thursday before 10pm, and 2-for-1 cocktails all day, every day. Also, check out our What’s On page to see what events are coming up in the city!
