The Fay Weldon Lecture: The Afterlife of Women’s Writing

The 2025 Fay Weldon Lecture will be given by Francesca Beauman, the author, historian and managing director of Persephone Books, the Bath-based imprint dedicated to republishing neglected women novelists.
As a historian, she has focused on dating and courtship, from lonely-hearts ads to dating websites. Francesca is also the Vice-Chair of the Holburne Museum in Bath. In this lecture Francesca will address the afterlife of women’s writing, its reception, influence and perspective on cultural shifts and political change.
This annual public lecture series was launched by Bath Spa University in 2023 to continue the legacy of Fay Weldon CBE, the novelist and renowned literary figure, who was Professor of Creative Writing from 2012 to 2021.
The event is free to all and there will be a Q & A session with Francesca Beauman after the talk.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
