SouthGate Bath

Southgate Bath is home to over 30 shops, 20 restaurants, and a boutique cinema.

Every year, Southgate Bath unveil stunning new installations and planters, and this year is no different. Discover their colourful floral displays and an immersive underwater ‘Riverline’ theme.

With planters, seating areas and floral displays, the Southgate shopping centre is always impressive. With phone boxes filled with flowers all year round, every summer sees a unique creative installation.

This summer, SouthGate’s striking new installation is inspired by the Bath River Line, which is ‘a 10km linear park following the River Avon through the heart of Bath that enhances biodiversity and climate resilience whilst providing a safe, social and inclusive space for residents and visitors.’

The installation will run until September, and includes:

a stunning canopy of blue and green ribbons, rippling overhead like a flowing river.

Woven into the canopy are willow structures, handcrafted by local artist Julie Starks and pupils from local schools

an illustrated ‘river trail’ on the ground by artist Marian Hill, guiding visitors through fascinating facts about local wildlife on the river.

A giant ‘recycling fish’ – a playful powerful reminder to recycle plastic bottles and protect our waterways.

A donation point for Avon Wildlife Trust

And thanks to a partnership with Bath College, the materials used in the canopy will be repurposed, reinforcing Southgate’s commitment to sustainability.

Guy Henderson, Centre Director at SouthGate Bath, said: ‘This year, we are proud to use our summer installation to shine a light on the River Avon and the vital natural environment that surrounds our beautiful city. The ‘river in the sky’ is a striking centrepiece that will offer our visitors a moment of reflection and inspiration, as well as an opportunity to get involved in protecting our local environment.’ (From Bath Echo)
