Meet Adrian from Komedia Bath on Westgate Street…

Tell us a bit about your business

Komedia is located inside the beautiful Grade II listed former Beau Nash cinema and is dedicated entirely to delivering live performance. We host over 500 events every year including stand up comedy, music, club nights, children’s shows – o we like to think we offer something for everyone in the local community and for visitors exploring Bath’s vibrant nightlife.

Why Bath?

When I was bout 10 years old, my parents took the family for a day trip to Bath from where we lived in Devon.

I remember it vividly: a country bumpkin walking wide eyed around the city of Bath. We visited the Roman Baths, the Abbey, wandered around the side streets, I was stunned and in the car on the way home I told my parents that I’m going to live there one day.

Fast forward 15 years and I was lucky enough to be offered a place at Bath Spa University to complete an MA in Creative Writing…I haven’t left since.

Share something new and exciting you have discovered in Bath

It’s no exactly new but the explosion of street food that has appeared all over the city is a taste sensation. It makes lunch time something to really look forward to.

What do you do to spoil yourself?

Really depends what sort of mood I’m in.

A day at the rugby is a lot of fun but so is watching Bath play cricket at North Parade on a sunny day (a bit of a sport theme going on here).

However, Bath is blessed with some outstanding parks and walking through the botanic gardens at Victoria Park in summer, with the family and an ice cream at the end takes some beating.

Your top indie recommendation in Bath?

It has to be The Star Inn on The Paragon. First licensed in 1760 and the only place in the city where you can play shove halfpenny and get a complimentary pinch of snuff at the same time.

For a newer Indie establishment, I’d go to The Welly on Green Street. All their craft beers are made from barley grown on the Somer Valley farm so it’s about as local as you can get. The food is pretty special as well.

What are you most looking forward to in the city over the next few months?

Party in the City is one of the highlights of the summer for me. I always think the city looks best in May but seeing it really come alive with music is fantastic.

Thousands of performers, countless different genres of different venues and it’s all free. It’s an amazing night so come support.
