Phosphates: Too much of a Good Thing?

2 May @ 7:30 pm 9:00 pm

Phosphates: Too Much of a Good Thing?

Phosphates form part of our DNA and are essential for life. However, extensive mining and over-reliance on phosphates is a rapidly growing environmental problem. Phosphate-rich agricultural run-off is a special challenge on the Somerset Levels and Moors, where attempts to limit phosphate pollution are currently playing havoc with house-building regulations. Yet somehow the pollution must be controlled.

Join BRLSI to watch the film Phosphates: Too Much of a Good Thing? (31m) made by local filmmakers John Potter and Phil Shepherd. John and Pete will join in a Q&A session after the screening, with additional contributions from scientists, farmers and “Our Lady of the Waters”.

The discussion will touch on many topical issues, including the role of the Environment Agency and the regulator, the future of farming and the housing crisis.
