This concert brings together two artists renowned internationally as soloists and chamber musicians. Since her last appearance in Bath pianist Imogen Cooper has become a Dame, an honour awarded in 2021 for Services to Music. Here she will play Petrarch’s Sonnet 47 for solo piano, Liszt’s earliest attempt to introduce poetry into music for the piano. For the rest of the concert the two artists will share the stage in a delightful programme including Beethoven’s Variations from Mozart’s Magic Flute, Robert Schumann’s 5 Pieces in Folk Style Op 102 and concluding with Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No 3 in A major Op 69. The longest of his five cello sonatas and notable as the first version to give equal weight to both instruments, this work deserves its enduring popularity
