An extract from Indie Bath 2026-2027
Meet Chris from Independent Spirit of Bath on Terrace Walk…

Tell us a bit about your business
We started in 2013, the original co-founder Christian was a local lad who grew up in the city and the shop wouldn’t exist without him. Whisky and beer were our original focus but we came along at the perfect time for the gin boom and that soon dominated our offering. Today its once again the whisky and beer we are known for.
Todays version of the shop has us hosting tastings around the city and suppling some of the bars with harder to source items. We have recently teamed up wit a local bar owner and distiller to create a series of historical liqueurs based on traditional Bath beverages such as the Syllabub, Orange grove and the new Faulkners Elixir. These are unique to Bath and you should be able to find them around the city shortly.
Why Bath?
I came to Bath for 3 weeks in 2011 and never left so there is definitely something special about the city. Bath reminds me a lot of an area of Edinburgh I used to live in and with the rugby and bar connections I see a lot of the same people.
Share something new and exciting you have discovered in Bath….
The Sickle. A tiny venue at the top of Walcot Street. Belgian and German beers on draught and some quiet special UK specialist stuff. Alex has curated a very welcoming, cool and cosy space and I just wish it was several times the size it is.
What do you do to spoil yourself?
Take the dogs for a walk in the centre when its not busy. They have a surprising amount of human friends who run bars and have a mini pub crawl route where they get fussed and get treats. If the dogs and my partner are happy then I’m happy, and Bath is a very dog friendly city.
Your top indie recommendation in Bath?
I would whole heartedly recommend a trip to Widcombe to everyone however. It’s a great a little community anyway but late last year our good friends and neighbours; Paul and Sarah from the ale house here on Terrace walk, took over the Ring o’Bells and they are absolutely smashing it at that little community pub.
What are you most looking forward to in the city over the next few months?
Sunshine, finally. An opportunity to go to the many green areas around the city.
