Wylde Creatures of Bath Prizes Presented

We are delighted to announce the winners of the Wylde Creatures of Bath competition, who were awarded their prizes at Wylde Jewellery this week.

Bath BID hosted a shop window and drawing competition over the summer, as an extension of the Bath Biodiversity benches project, in which 24 small illustrations of local Bath wildlife were painted on the benches around Bath Abbey. The trail, sponsored by Wylde Jewellers, invited residents and visitors to find the 24 corresponding animal paintings hidden in shop windows throughout the city, with a trail booklet that included an animal drawing competition.

This engaging hunt not only provided a free educational activity for families over the summer, but also celebrated the range of local businesses who hosted an animal painting in their window or provided a prize.

Generous Sponsors and Prizes

The competition was generously sponsored by Wylde Jewellers, and supported by several local businesses with fantastic prizes. Whittard of Chelsea provided a £100 hamper of exquisite teas and coffee, Flapjackery contributed a generous box of flapjacks, Soul Spa provided a Sound Bath for two, and Fat Giraffe Gifts gave a beautiful handmade Kingfisher as a prize. The highlight, however, was from Wylde Jewellers, who transformed the winning illustration of the under 10s category into a stunning silver pendant.

Judges

41 entries were received across three age categories, and the drawings were judged by Nicholas Wylde of Wylde Jewellery and Liz Grey from the Bath Magazine who spent an afternoon considering the creativity, skill and detail of all the drawings, with much deliberation for each category.

Celebrating the Winners

The prize-giving took place at the beautiful Wylde Jewellers shop on Northumberland Place, where Carly Cooke welcomed winners with a drinks reception.

  • Lisa won the over 18s category with a detailed drawing of a badger and was delighted with her prizes of the Whittard hamper, Bath Gift Card and art materials. Runners-up Jenny and Miriam received a Bath Gift Card and a Sound Bath at the Soul Spa.
  • Mollie, who triumphed in the 11 to 18s category with her illustration of an adder, received a large box of paint pens and a £50 Bath Gift Card. Runners-up Bella and Bertie were awarded the handmade kingfisher from Fat Giraffe Gifts and a large box of Flapjackery flapjacks.
  • Toby won the under 10s category with his drawing of a monkey, beaming with pride as he received his paint pens, gift card and the specially created silver pendant of his artwork. Four runners-up – Rosie, Ella, Lucy and Jonathan – received paint pens and flapjacks from Flapjackery.

Carly Cooke, from Wylde Jewellers said, “We were absolutely delighted to sponsor this brilliant summer treasure hunt initiative, and to have the opportunity to collaborate with a fellow “wild” artist to promote the city of Bath and all of its “Wylde” creatures!

The winning entry, designed by Toby, was incredibly creative and as soon as we saw it, we could imagine it in its silver pendant form! We hope that both Toby and his mum have enjoyed seeing his wonderful monkey design brought to life by our workshop.”

Bath BID are grateful to all the sponsors and supporters, as well as everyone who took part, and we look forward to creating more projects and activities that celebrate the business in Bath.
