An extract from Indie Bath 2026-2027
Meet Steph from Good Day Cafe on Upper Borough Walls….

Tell us a bit about your business…
I’ve worked in hospitality since I was 18 years old and after a round of bar jobs when I was studying, I knew I wanted to do my own thing with it. Good Day Cafe opened in 2018 and was a special little place serving coffee and a small menu. During the COVID lockdowns, I was thinking of we could do to keep going and raise a bit of money for charity. With a basic website I sold boxes of brownies (the only thing I would make myself) and delivered them to people in my car – donating a portion of sales to charity. From there everything grew and our Bakery was born! We’ve since expanded, grown online, and started an event business selling insane brownies and serving hearty brunches.
Why Bath?
That it’s always busy and buzzing, there’s always an event to go to or something which draws people from all over the city. I grew up in Dorset originally, but used to come into Bath nearly weekly during school holidays. My parents were antique dealers so we used to come into visit the antique shops on Walcot Street and the Bonhams Auction House (now Hall and Woodhouse).
What do you do to spoil yourself?
I’m big into food so if I had an ideal foodie line up and endlessly large stomach I would do brunch at Cortado, lunch at Taylor’s Bagels on Walcot Street, sweet treat at Good Day Cafe an Bakery (obvs), dunner at Solina Pasta, and pint at Sam Wellers – the team there are fave and its especially special on a rare sunny day where you can grab a seat on the street.
A real treat is also wandering around Mr B’s Emporium and Toppings with a coffee for a good book browse.
Your top indie recommendation in Bath?
A team favourite of ours is Matcha Thing in The Corridor for a great matcha and Firefly Vintage for cute and unique clothing pieces!
What are you most looking forward to in the city over the next few months?
All the summer events! During the summer it feels like there’s something on every weekend and a reason for people to be out and cheerful.
We love when the Spring, Summer and Autumn Fayre’s are on too! Who knows, you might even see us there.
