What is Britain in Bloom?

Britain in Bloom combines 18 regional competitions including South West in Bloom to make up the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe. The aim is to improve and regenerate our local environments, through the imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation and recycling projects, and to sweep away litter, graffiti and vandalism.

There is a regional and a national competition, and last year Bath BID were awarded Gold and Best BID in the South West in Bloom regional competition, which means we are now entered into the national Britain in Bloom competition in 2025.

Alongside Bath BID in Bloom – which focuses on the area within the BID boundary – the local team of volunteers who make up Bath in Bloom will be entering Bath in the general city competition. Last year Bath in Bloom won Gold for Bath in the regional competition, and were crowned overall winner of the entire national Britain in Bloom competition. This incredible achievement is due to hard work all year round to ensure Bath is beautiful, clean and full of amazing flowers, which Bath BID and Bath in Bloom work on together with the Council, businesses and volunteers in the city.

Some of the highlights on the Bath BID in Bloom route include the innovative Southgate installations, the Bath in Bloom volunteers’ Manvers Street Flower Beds, the beautiful Parade Gardens, the welcoming Parklets on Milsom Street, The Jane Austen themed installations, planters and artwork and the huge array of hanging baskets and planters around the city that are installed or sponsored by businesses and B&NES Council.
