Persuasion and Promenades: Jane Austen’s 250th Birthday Celebrations

2025 marks the 250th birthday of the beloved author Jane Austen. Though her time in Bath was relatively brief, the city left a lasting impression on her life and work. It served as both a home and a muse, inspiring two of her cherished novels—Persuasion and Northanger Abbey—both of which feature Bath’s elegant streets, bustling assembly rooms, and genteel society.

Locals and visitors alike are invited to step back in time and immerse themselves in a season of Austen-themed events and activities. From Regency dances and costumed promenades to literary talks and immersive theatre, there’s something for every admirer of Austen’s wit and wisdom.

So dust off your bonnet, tighten your corset (or simply admire from afar), and prepare to promenade through the historic streets of Bath this summer—because there’s never been a better time to celebrate Jane Austen in the city she once called home.
